Review: Illektrolab - Temporal Interference EP - Brokntoys BT75

Dystopian “Temporal Interference EP” sees Jason McCracken returning to Brokntoys to deliver a perfect follow up to his highly acclaimed “Paranoid Android” debut EP on the UK imprint back in 2019. As usual, don’t expect a moody journey through lazy atmosphere from the US wizard as this future classic promises you some irresistible robotic movements on the linoleum. The four tracker opens with Sci-Fi monster “Android Humanoid”, a haunting electro song made of pounding beats, intricate sororities and menacing transmissions from outer space. Enhanced by a heavy yet warm bassline, this pure mayhem straight out of a Battlestar Galactica episode is guaranteed to damage any woofers thanks to its Cylon like vocals. Ace!

The title track coming next signs a tense and scary downtempo cut. Succeeding to Rastafarian voices, low infra bass mixed with bubbling distortions mute the tune into a pure electro Ravey anthem, gloomy as Hell. You’ll be doomed! Merciless killing machinery “In The Tube” on the flipside goes deeper into the realm, exploring the dark, hostile and sinusoidal meanders of your mind. Hammering 808 rhythm combined with insidious analogical madness bring to this percussive slaughter another spatial dimension. Top notch! Last but not the least, dense “Say Robot” concludes the EP with an unexpected groovy approach, showcasing unique modulations and filtering techniques over a much anticipating hit. Available in both vinyl and digital formats, this must have EP serves up a relentless sonic rampage in ILLEKTROLAB’s typical signature made of low frequencies and cold distortions. Save your copy while you can as the 12” appears to be strictly limited.
